How To Change Shutter Speed On Nikon D3500

Today we’re going to look at how to change the shutter speed on the Nikon D3500. Here’s the deal. At some point all of us want to shoot in a specific way and changing our camera settings can help you achieve that. I find that it’s always best to set your camera up so it works for you, instead of making yourself work for your camera.

The Nikon D3500 is very common among novices and intermediate photographers. However, there will be a time when you want to change your shutter speed. I mean you can’t always leave your shutter speed at its default value, right?

What is shutter speed in camera?

Shutter speed is the length of time the camera shutter is open to expose light to the sensor. A fast shutter speed will freeze movement, while a slow shutter speed will allow more light into the camera, which means any movement will be blurred.

Tv (Shutter priority) mode is a semi-automatic mode that allows you to set the shutter speed and the camera meters for you. It will do this based on your aperture setting (more on that later).

Your shutter speed can be fast or slow. The longer your shutter speed, the more light you let into your camera. For example, if you are in a dark room and you use 1/100s your picture will be very dark because not much light has gotten into your camera. If you use 1/1000s your picture will have a lot of light and it will be well exposed.

If you are using a long shutter speed make sure you have your tripod or something sturdy to lean against so that your camera doesn’t move during the long exposure time.

You should be careful when using extremely slow shutter speeds because they cause what’s called “camera shake”. This makes it look like your photo was blurry even though it was taken with a stable camera.

How To Change Shutter Speed On Nikon D3500

One way to do this is by changing the shutter speed. The shutter speed controls how long the camera’s sensor is exposed to light. The longer the exposure, the more light hits the sensor, and the brighter the image will be. Slowing down your shutter speed can be a great way to capture motion, whether you’re photographing moving water or capturing action shots at a soccer game.

To change the shutter speed on Nikon D3500, press the button with the mountain icon and turn the rear dial until you reach the shutter speed you want. Alternatively, you can press the “i” button and use the touchscreen to change your shutter speed.

To change the shutter speed on Nikon D3500, press and hold the shutter-release button halfway down. Next, press and hold the exposure compensation button (the button with a mountain icon), then turn the rear dial until you reach the shutter speed you want to use. If you don’t have a rear dial — if you’re using an entry-level camera like the Nikon D3300 or Nikon D3400 — then use your index finger to do this instead of your thumb.

Shutter speeds on Nikon D3500 are measured in seconds or fractions of a second. For example, 1/50 or 1/60 second.

The exact shutter speed indicated by the camera may vary depending on your exposure mode, but it is always shown in a range, such as 125–1,000. The same goes for aperture and ISO settings.

The camera automatically adjusts aperture and ISO when you select a specific shutter speed. But you can also manually select them, which is called “manual mode.” Here’s how to change the shutter speed on Nikon D3500 in manual mode:
